I just finished reading a new book from Rohit Bhargava, called Likeonomics. If you work with people in your everyday life (which I’m guessing is 99% of us), I recommend reading it.
The basic premise is that people decide who to trust and believe based on how much they like a person. Back in 2008, there was actually a stunningly large number of people that said the biggest reason they voted for President Obama over McCain was simply because he seemed like a nicer person.
In the online world we live in today with Facebook, Twitter and email, I think it’s very important to remember that the best relationships are built face to face. Bhargava does a great job of breaking down his 5 major points and adding real stories as examples of each. I’d be willing to bet that you’re not going to close your next business deal based on how many Facebook friends you have… I’d keep practicing that golf swing.
